To transfer the Lotus-Effect into coatings, it is necessary to create a hydrophobic surface with very low surface tension, along with the appropriate nano-structure.
Self-assembling nanoparticles
Nanoparticles consisting of ceramic, diamond, silver or glass held in colloidal solutions typically of water or alcohol are combined in different combinations depending on the substrate being treated and it material characteristics.
These particles have self-assembling properties, that during the application process adhere directly to the substrates molecules (molecular bonding) and self-organise into an invisible and ultra thin (one molecule think) nanoscopic mesh. After evaporation of the carrying solution, a very long lasting hydrophobic surface is created. All foreign contaminants are simply washed off by rain or when rinsed with water.
Utilising this technology, it is possible to create products with new and unseen smart surfaces.
